curls for (m)others
By Olivia Moretta
Mom plays with my hair
disengages
each curl
with fine toothed comb
a paddle brush
a bone dry heat
nails graze my neck
while mussing up
angelic frizz
as beauty
for Mom
Mother oils individual coils
suffocates
with sulfate free
sustainably sourced
and black
Mother
and Her visits
and endless hours in bathroom mirrors
my head the crystal ball diving
a lust
a loss
a way forward
for Mother
